2022 Edition – Winners

THE THEME OF THE III EDITION WAS DARE TO MEND
Current events are bringing a lot of confusion and disorientation to our communities. To deal with such complexity, what we probably need is to “dare to mend”,: urging ourselves to question our present and defining our place as humans between the actual reality and the desired one. As Louise Bourgeois claimed, the Act of sewing is a process of emotional repair.
Following her words, as humanity, we are called to tie all the loose ends of civilisation together, darning the material that we consist of by taking care of the relations that we stitch every day, weaving our dreams and desires harmoniously to transform reality.
As an instrument to deconstruct and rebuild reality, art offers images beyond its logic and intuition creating new ways of seeing the world and making the first step toward change. The contest targeted artists, professionals, amateurs, students, and young people worldwide. Young artists (under 21 years of age) compete in a specific category.
What shapes, colours and images would you use to mend the fabric of the world?

Designer, muralist and illustrator her work is a reflection of her travels with a communicative “joie de vivre”.
After her training in design and fashion, where she learned embroidery, weaving, printing and dyeing techniques, she began her career with Swildens and Leon & Harper as a textile designer. It is after returning from long stays in New York and India, that she opened her art studio and worked with brands such as Louise Misha, Majestic Filature, Pimkie, Idano, Habitat or Made.com .
In March 2018, during a crossing of Morocco, Aurélie discovered pigments in the city of Chefchaouen, in the north-west of the country. She bought ten kilos (a bit much), with which she painted the facade of a school in the middle of the desert. Alongside the local children with illuminated faces, it immediately clicked: this new experience marked the beginning of great associative adventure.
On walls in Morocco, Colombia, USA, or France, she now asserts her colorful and pop style, leading projects increasingly oriented towards sharing.
Offering to bring colorful ideas, leaving landscapes more lively and interiors further illuminated, then when she arrived. Continuously searching to mix art and experiences in order to lift hearts and give back.

One of her great passions is the creation of tools that value cultural diversity and collaboration between people who carry different cultural codes. Her favourite ingredients to achieve this are: positive psychology, neurosciences and art.

…creates the most dreamlike images on canvas catching the brief moment of time depicting dusty drapes, ornate teacups and vintage photos.
With a broad circle of interests starting from fashion and design (studies finished at the Polimoda Fashion School in Florence and Fashion Institute of Technology in New York where she has mastered fashion illustration techniques), between theatrical and cinematographic costume and set design (including her brilliant collaboration with world-famous directors like Peter Greenaway and Bob Wilson) and editorial illustration, Daniela Balsamo is a truly outstanding creator of the contemporary Italian art scene.
From 2008, her artistic research intensifies: at this phase emerges a particular collage technique, as an attempt to push oneself to go on a deeper level of interpreting an artwork. To create such collages, Balsamo puts together documents, diaries and images on large size boards. When the experimental part with paper materials is done, she enriches the work with oil paintings, generating new ways of understanding what pure painting is.

While she mainly works on painting practice with the idea that there is a healing need for all kinds of expression forms to come out of the body, her practices expand to ceramic, photography, illustration, site specific projects, sound and live visual performances.
